The Arrest At The Gala

The Silver Gown She Wore Revealed A Cruel Secret banner

The silver dress rustled loudly as the police officer pulled Victoria's arms behind her back, snapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists.

Victoria: Julian! Do something! Call our lawyer! Don't let them take me out in front of everyone!

Julian: My lawyer won't be helping you, Victoria. In fact, he's the one who handed over your banking records to Evelyn this morning.

Victoria: You betrayed me! All of you betrayed me!

Evelyn: You betrayed yourself the moment you thought money was more important than a child's safety.

Maya hid her face against Arthur's shoulder as the officers escorted Victoria toward the double doors, her high heels clicking loudly on the marble floor.

Victoria: I will sue you for this, Evelyn! I will take everything you own!

Evelyn: You won't have a dime left after the civil lawsuit I'm filing tomorrow morning. Every cent in your bank account is going into a trust for Maya's medical care and counseling.

Victoria: You witch! You ruined my life!

Officer 2: Watch your head, ma'am.

The guests watched through the tall glass windows as Victoria was placed into the back of a black police cruiser, her shiny silver dress crumpled against the dark vinyl seat.

The cruiser pulled away down the long cobblestone driveway, its red and blue lights flashing against the green lawn.

Inside the hall, a heavy silence settled over the room. The violinists lowered their bows, and the caterers stood still near the champagne tables.

Julian: Evelyn... I don't even know what to say. I was so blind.

Evelyn: You were blinded by what you thought was love, Julian. But a real parent protects their child first, before anything else.

Julian: I know. I failed Maya... I let that woman into her life.

Arthur: You made a mistake, son. But today, we corrected it before it was too late.

Evelyn walked over to Arthur and gently took Maya into her arms, holding her daughter close against her chest.

Evelyn: You're safe now, sweetie. Mommy's got you.

Maya: Is the mean lady gone forever?

Evelyn: Yes, baby. She's never coming back here again.
