Wealthy Woman Slaps Step-Son and Instantly Regrets It When Father Arrives banner

Lawyer: Good morning, Richard. I have some news regarding the legal proceedings.

Richard: Good morning, David. Did she sign the initial papers?

Lawyer: Her lawyer took one look at the security footage I sent over and advised her to surrender all claims immediately.

Richard: Smart man. Did she try to contest the prenup?

Lawyer: Not after we threatened to press formal criminal charges for child abuse. She signed everything an hour ago.

Richard leaned back in his office chair, taking a sip of his coffee as he looked out the window at the sunny backyard garden.

Richard: Is the restraining order fully in effect?

Lawyer: Yes. She cannot come within five hundred feet of you, Leo, or the estate premises.

Richard: Excellent work, David. Send me the final billing statement.

Lawyer: Will do, Richard. Take care of your boy.

Richard hung up the phone and walked out into the bright hallway, hearing the sound of laughter echoing from the living room.

Maria: No running in the house, young man!

Leo: You can't catch me, Maria!

Leo sprinted around the corner, his small face lit up with a genuine, happy smile that had been missing for months.

Richard: Gotcha!

Richard scooped his son up into his arms, lifting him high in the air as Leo giggled uncontrollably.

Leo: Daddy! Put me down!

Richard: Never! You're captured!

Maria walked into the room, holding a feather duster and wiping away tears of joy from her eyes.

Maria: It's so wonderful to hear this house full of life again, Mr. Sterling.

Richard: It really is, Maria. The dark cloud has finally lifted.

Leo: Daddy, look! The mark on my face is completely gone!

Richard set his son down gently and looked closely at his cheek. The red stain was entirely gone, replaced by healthy, glowing skin.

Richard: It sure is, buddy. Good as new.

Leo: Can we go to the park today?

Richard: Absolutely. In fact, let's take the whole day off and celebrate.

Maria: I'll pack a lunch basket for the two of you!

Richard: Pack three lunches, Maria. You're coming with us.

Maria: Oh, I couldn't possibly—

Richard: I insist. You saved my son, Maria. You are a real part of this home now.

Leo: Yay! Maria is coming too!

As they walked out into the warm, bright sunlight toward the garden, the mansion felt peaceful and whole once again, free from anger and deceit.
