The Hidden Cameras

Wealthy Woman Slaps Step-Son and Instantly Regrets It When Father Arrives banner

Evelyn: You can't prove I did anything wrong! It's your word against mine!

Richard: You really think I'm that stupid, don't you?

Evelyn: Maria is your employee! Her testimony won't hold up in court, she'll just say whatever you pay her to say!

Richard: Look up at the ceiling, Evelyn.

Evelyn slowly turned her head upward toward the vaulted ceilings of the living room, her eyes scanning the decorative molding.

Evelyn: What are you talking about?

Richard: Top corner, right above the chandelier. High-definition security cameras with full audio recording capability.

Evelyn: You... you installed cameras in the house?!

Richard: I installed them three months ago when I started noticing bruises on Leo's arms that he couldn't explain.

Evelyn: He was clumsy! He fell at the playground!

Richard: That's what you told me. But today, the feed went straight to my phone the moment the motion detector tripped.

Evelyn: You were watching me?

Richard: I watched you strike my child in real time while I was in the middle of a board meeting.

Evelyn took a slow step back, her hands dropping to her sides as her composure completely crumbled.

Evelyn: Richard, please... let's talk about this in private. We can go upstairs...

Richard: We have nothing left to talk about.

Evelyn: I was stressed! The wedding stress, managing this huge mansion, dealing with a child that isn't mine—

Richard: You knew he was part of the deal when you accepted my proposal!

Evelyn: But he constantly reminds me of your ex-wife! He looks just like her!

Richard: He is a seven-year-old boy who lost his mother to cancer two years ago!

Evelyn: And I tried to be a mother to him!

Richard: A mother doesn't slap a child across the face and scream at him to get out of his own home!

Maria: Excuse me, Mr. Sterling...

Maria walked back down the stairs, holding a small silver photo frame in her hands, her face solemn.

Richard: Is Leo okay, Maria?

Maria: He's resting now, sir. I put an ice pack on his cheek. But he asked me to bring you this.

Maria handed the frame to Richard. Inside was a slightly crumpled photo of Richard, his late wife, and baby Leo.

Maria: Mrs. Sterling had kicked it under the display cabinet on purpose earlier this morning. I saw her do it, sir.

Evelyn: You lying little snake!

Richard: Shut your mouth, Evelyn!

Maria: I didn't say anything earlier because I was afraid she would fire me, Mr. Sterling. She threatened to ruin my references if I spoke up.

Richard: You don't have to fear anything in this house ever again, Maria. You did the right thing.

Evelyn: This is ridiculous! You're taking the word of a housekeeper over your own wife?!

Richard: Maria has taken care of my son with love and respect since the day he was born. You've been here six months and treated him like garbage.

Evelyn: I gave up my career in New York to move into this place with you!

Richard: You gave up a struggling boutique to live off my trust fund and spend my money!

Evelyn: That isn't true!

Richard: I saw the credit card statements, Evelyn. Fifty thousand dollars on clothes and jewelry in the last month alone.

Evelyn: I have an image to maintain as your wife!

Richard: Well, as of five minutes ago, your budget is zero.
