The Fall Of Evelyn

The Maid Who Sang The Forbidden Lullaby banner

Andrew walked over to the grand entrance and pulled the heavy doors wide open. Four uniformed police officers stood on the porch, led by a sharp-looking female detective holding a legal folder.

Detective Vance: Andrew Miller?

Andrew: Yes, Detective. Please come inside.

Detective Vance: We have an arrest warrant for Evelyn Miller regarding child trafficking, medical forgery, and conspiracy to commit fraud.

Evelyn: This is a mistake! My father is on the city council! You can't arrest me in my own home!

Detective Vance: Step down the stairs, ma'am. Do not make this harder on yourself.

Two officers moved quickly past Andrew, heading up the marble stairs toward Evelyn. She backed away, screaming and kicking as they grabbed her arms and placed metal handcuffs around her wrists.

Evelyn: Andrew, do something! Call our corporate lawyers! You can't let them do this to me!

Andrew: I'm hiring lawyers, Evelyn. But they'll be working for Sarah and me to make sure you spend the rest of your life behind bars.

Evelyn: You'll ruin us all! You'll destroy everything!

The officers dragged Evelyn down the stairs, her expensive blue gown sweeping across the dirty floor as she wept bitter, angry tears. The heavy front doors closed behind her, cutting off her loud screams as the police cruisers took her away into the dark night.

The foyer grew quiet again, save for the soft breathing of the two young boys. Toby reached out, pulling on Sarah's maid apron once more.

Toby: Is the mean lady gone forever now?

Sarah: Yes, sweetie. She's gone. She'll never hurt you again.

Andrew slowly walked over to Sarah, stepping down onto his knees on the cold marble floor until he was at eye level with her and the children.

Andrew: Sarah... I don't even know how to ask for your forgiveness. I was so blind. I trusted the wrong people.

Sarah: You didn't know, Andrew. They tricked both of us.

Andrew: I lost seven years with you... seven years with our boys.

Sarah: We can't change the past, Andrew. But we can build the future they deserve.
