The Diamond Ring From The Graveyard

The crystal chandeliers of the Grand Plaza ballroom cast a golden glow over hundreds of wealthy guests, but the quiet hum of polite conversation vanished in an instant.

Arthur: Where did you get that?

Waitress: Sir, please... you're hurting me!

Arthur: Answer me! Where did you get that ring?!

Arthur gripped the young waitress's wrist so hard his knuckles turned white. Her tray of champagne glasses crashed onto the polished floor, shattering into a hundred sharp pieces.

Waitress: It's mine! Please, let go of my hand!

Arthur: You're lying!

Arthur stared down at her trembling finger. On it sat a massive, square-cut diamond ring set in heavy platinum. It caught the chandelier light, throwing sharp specks of blue fire across her black apron.

Arthur: That ring... was in the coffin. I put it on my wife's finger myself before they closed the lid six months ago.

Waitress: I don't know what you're talking about! My mother gave this to me!

Arthur: My wife was buried in the family vault! How did a servant end up with her custom six-carat diamond?!

The surrounding crowd gasped, pulling back as Arthur's red-faced fury shook the room. The waitress sobbed, her body trembling as she tried to pull her hand away.

Boy: Then you buried the wrong person.

Arthur froze. He slowly turned his head toward the small voice standing near the velvet curtains. His seven-year-old son, Leo, stood there in a tailored black suit, his dark hair slicked back, staring at his father with a chillingly calm expression.

Arthur: What did you just say, Leo?

Boy: I said you buried the wrong person, Dad. Mommy isn't in that box under the ground.

Arthur's eyes widened in horror as the ringing in his ears drowned out the whispers of the room, leaving him staring at his young son in total disbelief.
