The Stolen Inheritance

The Cold Betrayal In The Snow banner

Arthur's eyes narrowed, his arrogant demeanor flickering for the very first time.

Arthur: What are you talking about?

David: Did you really think I wouldn't check the bank accounts when I got back onto American soil?

Arthur: Those accounts are private family assets managed by the board of directors!

David: The board of directors didn't authorize you to transfer four hundred thousand dollars from my daughter's trust fund into your personal Cayman island account last month!

Emma gasped softly from the sofa, pulling the blanket higher up around the baby's neck.

Emma: Four hundred thousand... David, that was for her medical insurance and college fund...

David: He stole it, Emma. While I was risking my life overseas, my father was robbing my daughter's future to pay off his gambling debts in Atlantic City.

Beatrice: That is a complete fabrication! Arthur was investing that money for the family's long-term growth!

David: Investing it at a blackjack table, Beatrice? I have the bank statements stamped by the federal auditor right here in my gear bag!

Arthur took a step back, his face growing as pale as the snow outside the window.

Arthur: You... you went to the federal auditors?

David: The moment my deployment ended, my commander flagged suspicious wire transfers coming from my military pay deposit account. The military criminal investigation division has been tracking you for three weeks, Arthur.

Beatrice: Arthur... tell him he's wrong! Tell him you didn't touch the trust!

Arthur: Shut up, Beatrice!

David: She has a right to know, Arthur. Tell her how you spent her jewelry allowance to cover the interest on your loans to the syndicate!

Beatrice: What?! Arthur, is this true?! My diamond necklace in the vault... is it gone?!

Arthur: I had to secure liquidity! It was a temporary emergency!

David: You sold her jewelry, you stole my daughter's inheritance, and then you tried to freeze my wife to death so she couldn't tell me the truth when I came home!

Emma: Arthur... how could you do this to us? We trusted you...

Arthur: Trust?! You brought nothing to this family, Emma! You were a distraction that ruined my son's military career potential!

David: My military career is just fine, Arthur. In fact, my commanding officer made a special phone call to the local sheriff ten minutes before I arrived here in a squad car convoy.

Outside, the low, heavy wail of police sirens began to echo down the long, snow-covered driveway.

Beatrice: Oh my God... Arthur! The police are coming!

Arthur: David, stop this right now! We are Vances! We do not settle family disputes through the police!

David: You stopped treating us like family the second you locked my wife in the cold. Now you're going to deal with the law.

Arthur: I will cut you out of the company completely! You won't get a single dime from the Vance estate!

David: You don't own the company, Arthur. My grandfather made sure the corporate voting shares passed directly to me upon my thirtieth birthday. Which was last Friday.

Arthur stared at David, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water, unable to form a single word.

David: You have no power, no money, and no home. You have thirty seconds before those officers walk through that door.
