The Face of Panic

The Billionaire's Will and the Silver Basin banner

Victoria: Fraud investigator? What are you talking about?

Sarah: The manila folder in the study, Victoria. I didn't need to read it. I already knew what was inside.

Richard: You are bluffing. There is no investigation.

Sarah: I wore a wire in the study this morning, Richard. When you admitted to shredding the original will.

Richard: That is impossible. I swept you for recording devices!

Sarah: You checked my purse. You didn't check my pearl necklace.

Victoria: Richard, tell me she is lying.

Richard: She is lying! She doesn't have the resources to hire federal investigators.

Sarah: I didn't hire them. I just handed them the proof they needed to launch a criminal probe.

Victoria: Proof of what? We run a legitimate corporate enterprise.

Sarah: You run a massive embezzlement scheme using my father's charity foundation as a front.

Richard: Keep your voice down! The guests will hear you.

Sarah: I want them to hear me. I want everyone in this room to know who you really are.

Victoria: You stupid girl. You have ruined everything!

Sarah: I haven't even started yet.

Victoria's elegant face suddenly twisted into intense shock. Her eyes darted toward the entrance of the grand hall.

Victoria: Richard... look at the front doors.

Richard turned around. Three men in dark suits and windbreakers were walking past the security guards.

Richard: Who let them in? Where is the head of security?

Sarah: The head of security works for the true owner of this estate. He let them in.

Richard: I am the owner of this estate!

Sarah: Not anymore.

The lead agent walked straight toward the piano. He flashed a gold badge.

Agent: Richard Vance? Victoria Vance?

Richard: Yes, I am Richard. What is the meaning of this intrusion?

Agent: We have a federal warrant to search the premises and seize all financial hardware.

Victoria: You can't do this! We are hosting a charity gala for the mayor!

Agent: The mayor left out the back door five minutes ago, ma'am. He was tipped off.

Richard: This is a mistake. My lawyer will have your badges for this.

Agent: Your lawyer is currently in our custody downtown. He is cooperating fully.

Richard's face drained of all color. He dropped his champagne flute. It shattered on the marble.

Victoria: What did you do, Richard? You told me the paperwork was bulletproof!

Richard: Shut up, Victoria! Don't say another word without legal counsel.

Sarah: It is too late for that. The message on my phone? 'Both just confirmed it.'

Richard: Confirmed what?

Sarah: The offshore bank accounts. The forensic accountants just traced the wire transfers directly to your personal names.

Sarah slowly looked up from the floor. Her eyes burned with a defiant, angry gaze.
