Six months later, the bright summer sun illuminated the spacious backyard of a newly renovated farmhouse on the outskirts of the city. Green grass stretched out toward a line of oak trees, where a wooden swing hung from a high branch.
Loud, happy laughter filled the air as Lily ran across the lawn, holding a bright red kite that flapped wildly in the warm wind.
Lily: Look, Mommy! Look how high it goes!
Hannah: You're doing great, sweetie! Keep running toward the trees!
Hannah sat on a wooden bench near the porch, wearing a light summer dress, sipping a glass of iced lemonade. Marcus walked out from the house, carrying two fresh plates of lunch, and sat down beside her.
Marcus: How's the master flyer doing out there?
Hannah: She's been running around for an hour without stopping. I don't know where she gets all that energy.
Marcus: She gets it from her mother, of course.
Marcus smiled, putting his arm around Hannah's waist and kissing her cheek softly.
Hannah: Did Detective Miller call you back about the estate papers?
Marcus: Yes. Everything is officially finalized. The mansion in the city has been sold, and all the money has been placed into a private education trust for Lily.
Hannah: And Elena? How is she doing at her new job?
Marcus: She loves managing the foundation house in town. She told me to tell you she's coming over for dinner this Sunday.
Hannah: That's wonderful. She'll always be part of our family.
Lily came running across the soft grass, dropping the kite string and jumping straight into Marcus's open lap, her cheeks flushed with excitement.
Lily: Daddy, can we go to the beach tomorrow? Elena said there are sea shells on the sand!
Marcus: We can go anywhere you want, Lily-bug. The beach, the mountains, or the ice cream shop!
Lily: Ice cream first, then the beach!
Marcus and Hannah both laughed, holding their daughter tightly between them under the warm summer sun.
The dark days of lies, threats, and hidden secrets were behind them forever. The fake luxury of the mansion hall was replaced by the simple, real joy of a true family home—a home built on love, honesty, and an unbreakable bond that no amount of money could ever tear apart.
