The black sedan glided smoothly through the rain-slicked city streets, its dark tinted windows blocking out the neon lights of downtown.
Victoria sat in the back, holding a clean cloth against the small cut on her cheek. Her smartphone screen glowed brightly in the dark interior.
Victoria: Is the system override complete, Thomas?
Thomas: Yes, Miss Sterling. The main cloud servers were completely locked down two minutes after you left the hotel.
Victoria: What about the financial audit for the offshore accounts in the Bahamas?
Thomas: Our forensic team downloaded every transaction log from the last seven years. We have full proof that Marcus and Eleanor diverted forty million dollars from your father's estate trust.
Victoria: Good. Send the entire file directly to the District Attorney's financial crimes unit.
Thomas: It's already in their inbox, Miss Sterling. The prosecutor is signing the arrest warrants as we speak.
Victoria leaned her head back against the soft leather headrest, taking a deep, calm breath. The physical pain from the cuts on her shoulder was nothing compared to the relief of finally seeing justice after three long years of hiding her identity.
Her phone buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number. She tapped the speaker button.
Victoria: Speak.
Eleanor: Victoria! Victoria, please listen to me!
Victoria: Eleanor. I see you managed to find my private number.
Eleanor: Victoria, please... Marcus was out of line tonight! He's young, he has a terrible temper, but he didn't mean to hit me!
Victoria: He hit you because he's a coward, Eleanor. And you raised him to believe that money gives him the right to abuse everyone around him.
Eleanor: We can settle this privately! You don't need to destroy our family name! We can give you back your father's house in the Hamptons!
Victoria: That house already belongs to me, Eleanor. Just like the mansion you're sitting in right now.
Eleanor: What do you mean? This mansion is in my name!
Victoria: Check your mail slot, Eleanor. An eviction notice from the sheriff's department was delivered thirty minutes ago. You have twenty-four hours to gather your personal clothes and vacate my property.
Eleanor let out a sharp, hysterical sob over the speaker line.
Eleanor: You monster! Where are we supposed to go?! We don't have any money left!
Victoria: You can stay in the same cheap extended-stay motel my father died in while you were living in his estate. Goodbye, Eleanor.
Victoria ended the call and tossed the phone onto the leather seat beside her.
Driver: Where to now, Miss Sterling?
Victoria: Take me to the main headquarters on Wall Street. It's time to clean out my father's office.
