Justice And A Clean Slate

He angry on Wealthy Stepmother After Catching Her Striking His Wife In The Kitchen banner

Three months later, the sun shone brightly through the clean glass windows of the family home.

Sarah sat on the comfortable living room couch, holding little Emma, who was laughing happily and kicking her feet.

The bruise on Sarah's face was completely gone, replaced by a warm, radiant smile.

Mark walked into the room carrying a tray with two warm cups of chamomile tea and a plate of cookies.

Mark: Here you go, sweetheart. Tea is served.

Sarah: Thank you, Mark. Did Attorney Vance just call you back?

Mark: Yes. The judge just finalized the court proceedings twenty minutes ago.

Sarah: What happened?

Mark: Evelyn pled guilty to all federal fraud and embezzlement charges to avoid a longer sentence.

Sarah: How long will she be in prison?

Mark: The judge sentenced her to twelve years in federal prison without the possibility of parole for the first eight years.

Sarah: Twelve years...

Mark: And the court ordered full restitution. Her uptown penthouse, her luxury cars, and her entire bank account have been seized by the state trustee.

Sarah: Does that mean father's trust fund is fully restored?

Mark: Every single penny. Two point four million dollars has been safely deposited back into Emma's college trust account.

Sarah: It feels like a massive weight has finally been lifted off our shoulders.

Mark: It has, Sarah. She will never, ever step foot near this family or this house again.

Sarah: I was so scared that day, Mark. I really thought she was going to take everything away from us.

Mark: I know, honey. But you were so brave. You held onto Emma and you protected her through all of it.

Sarah: I only made it through because I knew you were coming home to us.

Mark sat down beside Sarah, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and kissing the top of her head.

Mark: I promise you, from this day forward, no one will ever disrespect you or hurt you again.

Sarah: Look at Emma, Mark. She's finally sleeping so peacefully.

Mark: She knows she's safe now. We all are.

Sarah: What are we going to do with the restored estate money?

Mark: First, we're going to secure Emma's entire future education and healthcare.

Sarah: And after that?

Mark: After that, I want to start a foundation in your name to help young mothers who are trapped in abusive family situations.

Sarah looked up at Mark, tears of joy filling her eyes.

Sarah: You would really do that?

Mark: You gave up so much to protect this family, Sarah. It's time the world sees how strong and amazing you really are.

Sarah: I love you, Mark.

Mark: I love you too, Sarah. Now, let's leave all the pain in the past and start writing our next chapter together.
