Marcus walked over to the overturned wheelchair, lifting it back onto its wheels and checking the frame carefully.
Marcus: Chief, bring me a clean cloth and a bottle of ice water, please.
Head Guard: Right away, Mr. Vance!
Marcus rolled the chair over to the couch, sitting down beside Maya and wrapping his arms around her tightly.
Marcus: How are you feeling, sweetie?
Maya: Better, Daddy... but I don't want people to hate me because I can't walk.
Marcus: Maya, look around this room.
Maya looked up, seeing dozens of hotel guests and employees smiling at her, some with tears in their eyes, clapping softly for her bravery.
Guest 1: You are a beautiful, strong little girl, Maya!
Guest 2: Don't ever let anyone make you feel small!
Staff Member 1: Welcome to our hotel, Miss Maya! You're our guest of honor!
A soft smile finally broke across Maya's tear-stained face as she looked at her father.
Maya: They're really nice, Daddy.
Marcus: That's because good people outnumber bad people in this world, Maya. Never forget that.
The head security guard returned, holding a cold pack wrapped in a soft white cloth and a glass of fresh juice.
Head Guard: Here you go, little princess. This will make your cheek feel much better.
Maya: Thank you, sir.
Marcus: Chief, what's your name?
Head Guard: David, sir. David Miller.
Marcus: Well, David, as of right now, you are the temporary general manager of this hotel.
David froze in place, his eyes widening in total disbelief.
Head Guard: Sir?! Me?! I'm just the head of security!
Marcus: You stood up for my daughter when no one else in management did. You protected this hotel's honor. You deserve the job.
David: I... I don't know what to say, Mr. Vance! Thank you so much!
Marcus: Double the pay for all front desk and cleaning staff starting today. I want this hotel to be a place of kindness and respect.
The hotel staff cheered loudly, hugging each other in excitement as the grand lobby transformed into a place of celebration.
