The Truth Behind The Crash

The Stepmother Forced Her To Sign The Trust Fund Papers In The Hospital banner

David: Maya, listen to me for one minute! I loved you!

Maya: You loved my father's money. You loved living in my family home without paying a single cent of mortgage.

David: My mother controlled everything! She threatened to cut me off if I didn't go along with her plans!

Maya: You're thirty-two years old, David. You chose money over your own wife.

David took a slow step into the room, but Nurse Sarah stepped directly into his path with her arms crossed.

Nurse Sarah: She told you to leave, sir. Respect her wishes or I'll have security come back up.

David: I just want to explain...

Maya: Explain what? How you stood in that doorway and watched her slap me across my face while I was hooked to an IV?

David looked down at his shoes, tears welling in his eyes.

David: I was scared of her...

Maya: You were a accomplice. And when Detective Miller gets here, I'm giving him the recording of you standing right there doing nothing.

David: Please, Maya... if I get charged with a felony, I lose my law license!

Maya: You should have thought about your license before you helped her forge my signature on the trust fund amendments.

David: How did you find out about the amendments?

Maya: Attorney Vance found the original documents in my father's safe box at the main bank branch downtown. You forgot he kept duplicate originals.

David's knees buckled slightly, and he leaned against the wall for support. The web of lies his mother had spun was unraveling right before his eyes.

David: She told me father gave her verbal permission before he died...

Maya: My father hated your mother during his last months. He was preparing to file for divorce before his heart attack.

David: Divorce?

Maya: She knew he was leaving her out of the will. That's why he died so suddenly in his study six months ago.

David stared at Maya, his voice barely a whisper.

David: What are you saying, Maya?

Maya: I'm saying the police are reopening my father's autopsy report tomorrow morning.

David took a sudden step back, horror washing over his face as the true depth of his mother's crimes hit him.

David: My God... she didn't...

Maya: She did. And you enabled her every step of the way because you wanted to play the rich heir in society magazines.

Nurse Sarah: That's enough. Out you go, sir.

Nurse Sarah placed her hands firmly against David's chest and pushed him out into the hallway, slamming the heavy wooden door shut behind him.

Maya: Thank you, Sarah.

Nurse Sarah: You're very brave, Maya. Most people would have surrendered to a woman like that.

Maya: I surrendered for five years. I'm done surrendering.

Maya reached up and carefully adjusted her oxygen mask, her eyes fixing firmly on the small red light of the ceiling camera above her bed.
