The Shadow Of Five Years

Arrogant Husband Attacks Wife Under Matriarch's Watch banner

Eleanor: This is a setup! A cheap, disgusting setup by a woman who couldn't even bear my son a child!

Marcus: Keep my daughter's health out of your mouth, Eleanor. The only reason she stayed in this house for three years was to gather enough evidence to dismantle your family's fraudulent empire piece by piece.

Oliver: Chloe, please... talk to your father! We can fix this! I'll go to counseling, I swear!

Chloe: You had three years to fix yourself, Oliver. Every time I begged you to stop, you hit harder.

Oliver: I was angry! The pressure at work was killing me!

Chloe: You were angry because you're a bully who only feels big when you're hurting someone weaker than you.

Oliver tried to twist out of the officer's grip, but the guard held him firmly, marching him toward the front doors. Eleanor rushed after them, her gold jewelry jingling loudly as her heels clattered on the marble floor.

Eleanor: I will call our family attorney right now! We will post bail before the sun goes down!

Lawyer Hayes: I wouldn't count on bail, Mrs. Sterling. The district attorney has already filed for a hold without bond due to flight risk and the severity of the financial crimes.

Eleanor: Financial crimes?! What financial crimes?!

Lawyer Hayes: The fifteen million dollars your son embezzled from the Vance Trust to cover his offshore gambling debts, for starters.

Eleanor stopped dead in her tracks, her hand flying to her throat as her eyes widened in horror.

Eleanor: Fifteen... million?

Oliver: Mother, don't listen to him! I was going to pay it back!

Marcus: With what? The money you thought you were going to inherit from my daughter when you drove her to a breakdown?

Chloe: You thought I was helpless, Oliver. You thought because I stayed quiet while you yelled, I had nowhere else to go.

Chloe stood up from the dining table, her posture tall and unyielding despite the purple bruise marring her left cheek. She walked right up to Oliver, looking him dead in the eye.

Chloe: I endured five years of your family's cruelty because I was waiting for the audit to finalize. Every check you forged, every account you opened in my name... I gave it all to the federal prosecutors.

Oliver: You... you ruined my life!

Chloe: No, Oliver. You ruined your own life the first time you raised your hand against me.

The police officer pushed Oliver through the grand entrance of the mansion, where two additional police cruisers were parked with their red and blue lights flashing against the stone driveway. Neighbors were already standing near their gates, pointing their phones and taking pictures as Oliver was forced into the back seat of the patrol car.

Eleanor: Stop taking pictures! Put those phones away, you vultures!

Marcus: Save your breath, Eleanor. The press conference is scheduled for four o'clock today.

Eleanor: Press conference?! You're going to drag our family name through the dirt in the news?!

Marcus: Your family name is already dirt. I'm just letting the rest of the country see it.
