The sound of the slap echoed through the pristine white living room of the luxury estate, sharp and unforgiving.
Oliver: You're useless!
Chloe: I dropped it because you screamed!
Chloe collapsed against the edge of the marble sofa, her hand pressed tightly against her left cheek. Fresh tears spilled over her eyelids, trickling down past a dark purple bruise that was already swelling. In the shadow of the hallway, an elderly woman stepped forward, her expensive gray hair styled to perfection and her expression completely devoid of pity.
Eleanor: Don't leave marks, Oliver. You know how people talk.
Oliver: She shouldn't have spilled my coffee, Mother.
Eleanor: Then discipline her in private. A wife who cannot keep a clean house reflects poorly on your standing at the firm.
Chloe: I worked twelve hours at the clinic today, Eleanor... I was tired.
Eleanor: Nobody asked for your excuses. You brought no money into this marriage, and you bring no honor to it now.
Chloe wept silently into her trembling hands, her shoulders shaking with every ragged breath. For three long years, this house had been a gilded cage where every mistake was met with violent outbursts or cold disdain. Oliver smoothed the lapels of his tailored suit jacket, a smirk playing across his face as he looked down at his sobbing wife.
Oliver: Clean up the glass, Chloe. I want this floor spotless before I get back from my meeting.
Chloe: Please... just give me five minutes to catch my breath.
Oliver: You have five seconds before I lose my temper again.
Oliver chuckled arrogantly, turning on his heel and strolling toward the dining hall with absolute confidence. He believed he was completely untouchable in his own home, protected by his family's vast wealth and high-society status. But as he turned the corner into the grand dining room, his confident stride instantly faltered. Sitting at the head of the long mahogany table was a sight he never expected, and the trap that had been quietly set for five years was about to spring wide open.
