Arthur: Arthur, call my personal attorney immediately. Tell him to bring the estate trust documents to my private study.
Butler: Right away, Mr. Sterling.
Victoria: Father, this is an outrage! You are humiliating our family in front of the entire country club!
Arthur: The only person who humiliated this family tonight is you, Victoria, when you laid your hands on an innocent girl!
Arthur guided Elena away from the crowd, leading her toward the grand oak staircase that led to the private upper wing of the mansion.
Victoria hurried right behind them, her heavy gown rustling furiously against the carpeted steps.
Victoria: You're letting a maid into the private study? There are confidential financial records in there!
Arthur: She is not a maid, Victoria. She is Rose's daughter. Which means she has a legitimate claim to half of this entire estate!
Victoria: Half the estate?! I've managed this property for fifteen years!
Arthur: You've managed to spend millions of my money while treating the staff like animals!
They reached the massive double doors of Arthur's private study. Arthur pulled a small brass key from his pocket, unlocked the doors, and pushed them open.
The room was lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a heavy mahogany desk sitting near the window, and a large steel safe embedded in the far wall.
Arthur: Sit down, Elena. Please.
Elena: Thank you, Mr. Sterling.
Arthur: Call me Uncle Arthur, my dear. If you are Rose's child, that is who I am.
Arthur walked over to the steel safe, turning the combination dial with precise, practiced movements. The heavy door clicked open with a deep metallic sound.
He reached inside and pulled out a velvet-lined wooden box, bringing it over to the mahogany desk.
Arthur: Look at this, Elena.
Arthur opened the box. Inside lay a worn silver locket and a matching torn photograph—the exact right half of the picture Elena had kept in her clutch.
Elena: Oh my goodness... it matches perfectly.
Arthur: My sister Rose took her half the night she disappeared. I kept my half right here for thirty-five years, hoping one day she would bring hers back.
Victoria: That proves nothing! Someone could have forged that picture!
Arthur: Stop talking, Victoria! Look at the back of the photo!
Arthur placed both torn pieces together on the wooden desk. On the reverse side, written in faded blue ink across the seam, were the words: Brother and Sister Forever - Arthur & Rose 1988.
Elena: My mother had that exact handwriting. She wrote it in all my school books.
Arthur: It is her. My God, Rose was alive all these years...
Elena: She lived three towns over, Uncle Arthur. She worked as a seamstress. She barely made enough money to pay rent, but she never complained.
Arthur: Why didn't she ever send a letter? Why didn't she call me?
Elena: Because she was terrified. She told me someone threatened to hurt me when I was just a baby if she ever stepped foot in this city again.
Arthur froze, his face turning pale as he slowly turned his head toward Victoria.
Arthur: Someone threatened her baby?
Victoria: Why are you looking at me like that?! I was twenty years old when Rose left! I didn't threaten anyone!
Elena: The letters my mother kept had a return address from the Sterling corporate account. Signed by your late husband, Richard Sterling.
Victoria: Richard?!
Arthur: My son Richard... he drove his own aunt out of the family business to secure the entire inheritance for himself?
Elena: Yes. And when he passed away five years ago, Mrs. Sterling took over his accounts and continued paying the silent offshore trust that kept my mother quiet.
Arthur's eyes widened in pure, unadulterated fury as he stepped toward Victoria.
Arthur: You knew? You knew Rose was alive this whole time?!
