The man in the grey suit stepped forward, holding his leather portfolio in front of David.
Marcus: Mr. Sterling, I am Marcus Cole, lead council for the state probate department.
David: Hello, Marcus. Is the temporary restraining order in effect?
Marcus: Yes, sir. As of ten minutes ago, the court has officially frozen all bank accounts registered under Evelyn Sterling's name.
David: What about the mansion deed?
Marcus: The original deed was registered under Sarah Sterling's living trust. Since Sarah's will named Lily as sole heir and you as primary trustee, you are now the full legal owner of this estate.
David: So Evelyn has zero legal claim to this building?
Marcus: Zero, sir. She was essentially a guest living in your daughter's home.
David looked around the massive ballroom, looking at the dozens of wealthy guests who were still standing in silence.
He took a deep breath, stepping toward the center microphone near the catering stage.
David: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for coming tonight.
The crowd leaned in, listening intently to every word.
David: The charity gala is officially concluded. However, every donation made tonight will be directed fully toward the city children's hospital in my late wife's name.
The crowd broke into warm, genuine applause, nodding their heads in deep respect.
Guest 1: Bravo, David! You did the right thing!
Guest 2: Sarah would be so proud of you!
David: Thank you, everyone. Goodnight.
