The Arrest At The Gala

A Wealthy Family Disowned Their Daughter Until A Forgotten Bread Crust Proved Her Innocence banner

The entire ballroom watched in stunned silence as Officer Davis stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.

Evelyn: Don't you dare touch me! Do you know who I am?!

Officer Davis: I know you're under arrest, ma'am. Put your hands behind your back.

Evelyn: David! Tell them to stop! Tell them it was a misunderstanding!

David: It wasn't a misunderstanding, Evelyn. You thought you could stomp on my child and hide behind your money.

Evelyn: I gave you a home! I gave you a position in this firm!

David: You gave me nothing! Everything I have, I earned alongside Sarah!

Officer Davis grabbed Evelyn's wrists, pulling them behind her lace dress and clicking the steel cuffs tightly in place.

Evelyn: AHH! Get your filthy hands off me! You're hurting my arms!

Officer Davis: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

Evelyn: David! Please! I am an old woman! I can't go to jail!

David: You should have thought about that before you locked a four-year-old in a dark closet.

Evelyn: Lily! Lily, tell the officer that Grandma was just playing a game with you!

Lily buried her face deeper into David's shoulder, holding onto his suit coat tightly.

Lily: I don't like Grandma's games, Daddy...

David: Grandma isn't playing any more games, sweetie.

The police officers dragged Evelyn toward the grand exit doors as she kicked her heels against the polished marble floor, screaming in frustration and rage.

Evelyn: UNGRATEFUL BRATS! BOTH OF YOU! I BUILT THIS FAMILY! YOU'RE NOTHING WITHOUT ME!

The heavy mahogany doors slammed shut behind her, cutting off her screeching voice and leaving the ballroom in a quiet, peaceful calm.
