A Stepmother Tried To Cast Out His Daughter Before The Yellow Bag Opened

The marble foyer of the Vance estate was silent until the small, panicked footsteps echoed off the tall white walls. Seven-year-old Lily ran through the hallway as fast as her small shoes could carry her. She clutched a small yellow handbag tightly against her chest, her knuckles pale. Her light blue ruffled dress was rumpled, and tears streamed down her cheeks.

Lily: MOMMY, NO! PLEASE!

From the formal drawing room, Evelyn stepped out into the bright natural daylight. She wore a heavy green strapless silk gown, her eyes dark with cold rage as she blocked the hallway.

Evelyn: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!

Lily: No! Leave my bag alone!

Evelyn: You don't tell me what to do, you little brat!

Lily: It's mine! My mommy gave this to me!

Evelyn: I'M GOING TO THROW YOU OUT MYSELF!

Evelyn lunged forward and brought her palm down hard across Lily's face. The sharp slap echoed through the open hall, sending the little girl stumbling backward toward the base of the double staircase.

Lily gasped, her small hand flying to her bright red cheek. Before she could recover her balance, Evelyn stepped forward and yanked the yellow handbag out of her grip. The fabric strap tore with a harsh sound.

Lily: Give it back!

Evelyn: Shut up!

With a brutal shove, Evelyn forced the child down onto the cold marble floor. Lily hit the floor with a heavy thump, sobbing as she pulled her knees to her chest. Evelyn unzipped the handbag and turned it upside down. Plastic toys, lip gloss, and folded papers scattered across the white stone.

Evelyn: Look at this trash! You think you belong in a mansion like this?!

Lily: Don't touch those papers!

Footsteps thundered down the grand staircase. David Vance, dressed in a sharp gray three-piece suit, reached the landing and froze in utter disbelief at the scene.

David: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

David rushed down the remaining steps, dropping to his knees beside his weeping child. He lifted Lily into his arms, holding her head against his chest as he glared up at Evelyn.

David: SHE'S MY DAUGHTER! DON'T YOU EVER TOUCH HER AGAIN!

Evelyn stood frozen, the torn handbag still in her hand, as David noticed one of the folded papers resting right beside his foot.
