Richard took a deep breath, resting his hand against the mahogany handrail of the grand staircase.
He turned toward his son, his eyes filled with immense pride and emotional relief.
Richard: Leo... come here, son.
Leo walked over to his father, stepping onto the marble floor beside him.
Richard dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms tightly around his ten-year-old boy and holding him close.
Richard: I am so sorry, Leo. I'm so sorry I didn't believe you when you first told me something was wrong with her.
Leo: It's okay, Dad. She was really good at lying.
Richard: You were braver and smarter than anyone in this house today. Your mother would be so proud of you.
Leo: I just wanted our home to be safe again, Dad.
Richard: Our home is safe now, Leo. I promise you, nobody will ever come between us again.
The female officer stepped back inside the foyer, carrying a velvet display box containing the recovered diamond necklace.
Female Officer: Mr. Sterling, after formal evidence processing at the precinct tomorrow, this necklace will be returned to your private vault.
Richard: Thank you, Officer. I appreciate your swift action today.
Female Officer: Your son is a sharp young man, sir. Not many ten-year-olds could organize a legal paper trail like that.
Richard: He gets his intelligence from his mother.
Leo smiled softly, touching the velvet box with his hand.
Leo: Can we put Mom's necklace back in her display case in the library, Dad?
Richard: We sure can, buddy. Right where it belongs.
The guests in the dining room began to clap softly, stepping out to offer their support and warm wishes to Richard and Leo.
