The morning light streamed through the crystal chandeliers of the grand banquet hall, illuminating the white marble floors and the towering wedding cake set up for the evening's gala.
Laurent: You insolent little liar! Where did you put it?!
A sharp, violent slap echoed off the high white walls, shattering the quiet elegance of the room.
Eight-year-old Sophie staggered back, her small hands flying to her burning cheek as she collapsed hard onto the cold floor.
Laurent: That is what happens when you raise a thief!
Sophie: I didn't touch your watch, Uncle Laurent! I swear!
Laurent: Shut your mouth! I saw you near my coat before the guests arrived!
Sophie sobbed hysterically, her pink dress wrinkled and covered in dust as the heavy shadow of her uncle loomed over her.
Laurent pointed his finger aggressively at the trembling girl's face, his eyes cold with unyielding malice.
From across the hall, the heavy double doors flew open with a bang.
Claire: DON'T YOU EVER TOUCH HER AGAIN!
Claire, wearing an elegant green silk gown, rushed across the marble tiles, her heels clicking rapidly as she charged into the frame.
She dropped to her knees in an instant, wrapping her arms tightly around the weeping child to shield her body from the man.
Claire: It's okay, my sweet girl. Mommy is here. I've got you.
Sophie: Mommy, I didn't take it! He hit me so hard!
Claire: Shh, baby, I know you didn't. Look at me, you're safe now.
Laurent: You're shielding her, Claire? She stole my diamond watch right out of my jacket!
Claire slowly rose to her feet, her face filled with intense protective anger as she turned to face her late husband's brother.
Claire: You lay a hand on my daughter again, Laurent, and I will end you right here.
Laurent smirked, stepping closer with arrogance, but before he could utter another word, a sharp gasp left his lungs.
He doubled over in extreme agony, clutching his stomach as his face drained of all color.
Laurent: AAAGH!
Claire stood tall, towering over the hunched-over man, leaning down close to his ear as he gasped for air in severe pain.
Claire: Never touch my daughter again.
