Julian: Get your filthy hands off the railing, old man!
Arthur: You think money gives you the right to stomp on people?
Julian: I own this estate! I can talk to servants however I want!
Arthur: You don't own anything yet, boy.
Arthur’s hand flew forward in a sudden, powerful arc.
The sharp crack of the slap echoed across the high ceiling like a gunshot.
Julian reeled back, dropping his crystal glass, which shattered into a thousand glittering pieces on the floor.
Julian: What are you doing?!
Clara: Julian! Oh my God!
Julian: You hit me! You crazy old driver, you actually laid hands on me!
Arthur: I should have done it the moment you opened your arrogant mouth!
Clara stepped forward, her expensive black silk gown rustling as her face turned red with absolute fury.
Clara: How dare you touch us! Security! Get up here right now!
Arthur didn't hesitate. He turned and struck Clara across the face with the back of his hand.
Clara gasped, stumbling back into the velvet couch while holding her burning cheek, tears instantly rising in her eyes.
Clara: You... you hit a woman?!
Arthur: I hit a bully who thinks her father's bank account makes her human!
Two heavy guards in black suits came sprinting up the stairs, their leather shoes squeaking on the marble.
Guard 1: Sir! Stand down immediately!
Guard 2: Grab his arms! Move!
Lily: Dad! No! Don't hurt him!
Lily dragged herself up from the staircase, ignoring the deep scrape on her leg, and ran to stand in front of her father.
Lily: Please! Don't touch my father!
Julian: Put him on the floor! Call the police! I want this old dog locked up for assault!
Arthur pulled his daughter behind his heavy frame, pointing a thick, scarred finger directly at Julian's swollen cheek.
Arthur: Stay away from my daughter!
Julian: You're going to prison! Do you hear me?! You and your pathetic daughter are going to rot in a cell!
Arthur: Call them. Call the chief of police right now, Julian. Go ahead.
Julian blinked, his hand still holding his face as he stared at the calm, terrifying confidence in Arthur's eyes.
Julian: You think I won't? I have Chief Miller on speed dial!
Arthur: Then dial the number. Tell him Arthur Vance is standing in the grand foyer of Vance Manor.
Clara froze on the couch, her hands dropping from her face as she looked up at the older man.
Clara: What... what did you just say?
Arthur: You heard me, young lady.
Julian: He's lying! He's just a crazy old driver trying to scare us!
Arthur: Check the gold crest on the fireplace mantle, Julian. Read the name stamped into the bronze.
Julian turned his head slowly, looking toward the giant stone fireplace at the end of the hall.
Lily: Dad... what is he talking about? Why are you saying those names?
Arthur: Because it's time to stop pretending, sweetie. It's time they learned who paid for every single drop of champagne in this room.
