The Escalating Confrontation

Evelyn: She won't shut her mouth, Victoria. The truth is coming out whether you like it or not.

Victoria: Julian, call security right now and have Evelyn escorted off the premises!

Julian: Wait a minute, Mom. Was that money taken from my trust fund allocation too?

Victoria: How dare you question me after everything I did to keep this business in our hands!

Julian: Answer the question! Did you touch my inheritance money?

Victoria: I saved this family from total bankruptcy! Arthur was deep in gambling debt before his heart attack!

Evelyn: That is a lie! Arthur never gambled a day in his life! You were the one buying private property in Europe!

Victoria's breathing became heavy and ragged as the walls of her own lies began closing in around her. She looked at Julian, who was pulling out his phone again, but this time his hands were visibly shaking.

Julian: I'm calling our family attorney right now.

Victoria: Don't you dare tap that screen, Julian!

Julian: If you stole from the main corporation accounts, the federal auditors will freeze everything we own!

Clara: They already know, Julian. The investigator sent his full file to the IRS this morning.

Victoria gasped, taking a step back until her spine hit the grand staircase banister. She looked at Clara with pure venom, realizing the quiet girl she had tried to intimidate was far sharper than she had ever anticipated.

Victoria: You ruined us... you ruined this entire family!

Clara: You ruined yourself when you put your hands on my mother.

Evelyn: Give me the keys to the front gate, Victoria. We are leaving, and you are going to stay right here and wait for the authorities.

Victoria: Never! This is my house!

Victoria snatched a heavy brass statuette from the entry table and raised it threateningly. Julian rushed forward, grabbing his mother's arm before she could swing it down.

Julian: Stop it! Are you insane?!

Victoria: Let go of me, Julian! They are going to take everything away from us!

Julian: You're going to put us both in prison if you don't drop that right now!

Julian wrestled the heavy brass object from her hands and threw it onto the velvet sofa. Victoria fell against the stairs, weeping tears of rage and desperation as her polished world crumbled around her feet.

Evelyn: Come on, Clara. Grab your things.

Clara: I don't need anything from this house. Everything I care about is right here with you.

Julian: Clara... wait.

Clara turned to look at her brother, who stood in his wrinkled silk pajamas, looking smaller and weaker than he ever had before.

Clara: What do you want, Julian?

Julian: What happens to the family business now?

Clara: The court will decide that. But you better get a good defense lawyer of your own.
