Evelyn: Arthur, please! We can settle this out of court! I'll sign everything back over to you!
Arthur: You don't have anything left to sign back, Evelyn. The court already froze all your personal assets an hour ago.
Evelyn: Froze my assets? With what authority?!
Chloe: With the emergency injunction Dad's lawyers obtained this morning!
Heavy footsteps echoed from the grand staircase outside the bedroom door, accompanied by the firm, authoritative voices of two men.
Detective Vance: Mr. Sterling? We're coming up.
Arthur: In the master bedroom, Detective.
Evelyn lunged forward, grabbing Arthur's lapels with desperate, shaking hands.
Evelyn: Arthur, tell them it was a mistake! Tell them we solved it privately!
Arthur: Remove your hands from my suit, Evelyn.
Evelyn: I gave you three years of my life! I played stepmother to your ungrateful daughter!
Chloe: You didn't play stepmother to anyone! You ignored me unless you needed me to sign family trust waivers!
Detective Vance stepped through the bedroom door, followed by a uniformed police officer. Both men carried official police folders.
Detective Vance: Evelyn Sterling?
Evelyn: Get out of my house! You have no right to be in my bedroom!
Detective Vance: We have a felony warrant for your arrest issued by the state prosecutor's office, ma'am.
Evelyn: On what charges?! This is a civil family disagreement!
Detective Vance: Grand larceny, corporate forgery, identity theft, and elder financial abuse.
Evelyn: Elder abuse?! I took care of my father-in-law until his dying day!
Chloe: You fired his private nurse and replaced her with your unqualified cousin so you could control his medication schedule!
Detective Vance: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, Mrs. Sterling.
Evelyn: Arthur! Are you really going to let them put handcuffs on your wife?!
Arthur: You stopped being my wife the moment you stole my daughter's inheritance and betrayed my father's memory.
The uniformed officer stepped behind Evelyn, pulling her arms back and snapping the cold metal handcuffs around her wrists.
Evelyn: Ow! You're hurting me! Arthur, make him stop!
Officer: Stand still, ma'am.
Chloe: Check her handbag on the nightstand, Officer. She has three stolen passports inside.
Evelyn: You little brat! I'll make sure you pay for this!
Detective Vance: Adding threats to a witness won't help your case, Mrs. Sterling.
Detective Vance reached over to the nightstand, picking up the designer handbag and unzipping it. He pulled out three blue passport books and a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills wrapped in rubber bands.
Detective Vance: Fifty thousand dollars in cash and three foreign passports with different names. Looks like you were planning a trip, ma'am.
Arthur: Take her away, Detective. My legal team will deliver the remaining forensic evidence to your office this afternoon.
Evelyn: Arthur! You'll regret this! You'll never find a woman who loved you like I did!
Arthur: I never had a woman who loved me, Evelyn. I had a parasite in my home.
The officers turned Evelyn around, guiding her firmly out of the master bedroom and down the long, carpeted hallway toward the grand foyer.
Her hysterical screams echoed through the tall ceilings of the estate until the heavy front doors slammed shut downstairs.
