The metal handcuffs clicked shut tightly around Eleanor's wrists, making her let out a sharp, humiliated screech that echoed up toward the crystal chandeliers.
Eleanor: Arthur! Tell them to stop! You can't let them drag me out through the front entrance like a common street thief!
Arthur: A common street thief has far more honor than you ever had, Eleanor.
Eleanor: Clara, please! I raised you after your mother passed! Have some mercy on me!
Clara: Mercy? Where was your mercy when you left my seven-year-old brother without a dollar for his medical care?
Eleanor: I was stressed! I was trying to hold the corporate assets together during a financial crash!
Clara: You were buying private jets and penthouses in Miami while Leo's hospital bills bounced.
Leo: Goodbye, Aunt Eleanor. I hope your cell is very small.
The guests stepped aside, clearing a wide path as the two federal agents escorted Eleanor down the long red carpet toward the exit doors.
Eleanor: You won't get away with this! My secondary legal team will have me out on bail by midnight!
Agent Miller: Bail is being denied, ma'am. The judge already flagged you as a severe flight risk due to your foreign bank transfers.
Eleanor: No! Let go of me! Arthur! Clara!
Her desperate screams faded as the heavy glass doors of the hotel lobby swung shut, leaving the grand ballroom in total, heavy silence.
Arthur turned toward the hundreds of stunned guests, holding his hand out to his daughter and young son.
Arthur: Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for the disruption to your evening. The charity event will continue, but all donations tonight will go directly to the Vance Children's Medical Trust Fund.
The crowd broke into loud, overwhelming applause, many standing up to cheer for Clara and Arthur as they stood together on the elevated platform.
Clara: Thank you, everyone. Enjoy your evening.
Arthur placed a warm hand on Clara's shoulder, tears shimmering in his eyes as he looked down at her grey uniform.
Arthur: You were so brave tonight, my girl. I am so proud of you.
Clara: I was just holding the line until you got here, Dad.
