Arthur: Someone call nine-one-one right now!
Guest 3: I'm calling! The paramedics are five minutes away!
Arthur: Clear the doors! Give her room to breathe!
Arthur kept his hand pressed firmly against the small of Clara's back, his chest heavy as he felt her weak, uneven breaths.
Victoria slowly walked down the left side of the grand staircase, smoothing out her red silk gown as if nothing had happened.
Victoria: What a tragic accident. She was always so clumsy in high heels.
Arthur: Accident? You shoved her with both hands, Victoria!
Victoria: Watch your tone with me, Arthur. You are merely a guest in my home.
Arthur: This home belongs to Clara! Your late husband's will was clear!
Victoria: The original will was updated last week. My lawyer has the signed documents right here.
A tall man in a dark charcoal suit stepped down behind Victoria, pulling a thick leather folder from his arm.
Julian: Mrs. Vance speaks the truth, Arthur. I notarized the revision myself.
Arthur: You forged those papers while Clara's father was in the hospice care ward!
Julian: That is a serious allegation, Arthur. I suggest you measure your words carefully.
Arthur carefully placed a rolled coat under Clara's head, standing up to his full height as he stepped between Victoria and his unconscious wife.
Arthur: You knew she was six months pregnant with the sole heir to the Vance trust fund.
Victoria: An unproven heir. The estate board hasn't verified any paternity testing yet.
Arthur: I am her lawful husband! We registered our marriage four months ago!
Victoria: A secret court marriage doesn't give you access to forty million dollars, Arthur.
Arthur: I don't care about the forty million dollars! I care about my wife and child!
The distant sound of loud wailing sirens echoed outside the tall iron gates of the estate, growing closer with every second.
Victoria: Julian, tell the security team to direct the paramedics through the side entrance. We don't need a public scene in the main lobby.
Arthur: They are coming straight through the front doors, Victoria. Touch them and I will have my security guards remove you myself.
Julian: Your private security team has no jurisdiction on this property, Arthur.
Arthur: Look out the front windows, Julian. Check who is standing on the lawn.
Julian turned his head toward the tall glass doors, his confident expression faltering as he saw four black SUVs pull onto the circular driveway.
Julian: Victoria... those aren't local police vehicles.
Victoria: What are you talking about? Who else would he call?
Arthur: I called the state investigators who have been monitoring your offshore bank accounts for the last six weeks, Victoria.
Victoria's eyes narrowed, her hands clenching into tight fists against her dress.
Victoria: You are bluffing. You don't have the legal authority to freeze anything.
Arthur: My father-in-law gave me full power of attorney three days before he passed away.
The front double doors burst open, letting in a gust of cool night air along with six uniformed paramedics pushing a bright yellow stretcher.
Paramedic 1: Move back, everyone! Give us room to work!
Arthur: Over here! She fell from the top landing! She's six months pregnant!
Paramedic 2: Check her blood pressure and pulse right now! Get the neck collar on!
Arthur dropped back down to his knees beside Clara, taking her cold, limping hand as the paramedics gently lifted her onto the board.
Arthur: Hang on, Clara. Please, just hang on.
Clara: Arthur... don't... leave me...
Arthur: I'm right here, sweetheart. I'm going to the hospital with you.
Victoria: You leave this house, Arthur, and you will never be allowed back through these gates!
Arthur: You won't be living in this house by the time I get back, Victoria.
