Sarah: It is okay, sweetie. Mommy is right here.
Sarah: You must be so hungry after your nap.
Sarah: Just give me one second to test the temperature.
Sarah sat in the rocking chair, her gold silk robe catching the soft light of the nursery.
Sarah: Perfect. Just how you like it.
Sarah: Are you ready for your milk, Lily?
Sarah: Yes, you are. You are my perfect little girl.
Sarah: Open up, sweetie.
Sarah tilted the glass bottle forward, watching the white liquid move toward the nipple.
Elena: Ma'am! Stop!
Sarah: Elena? What are you doing in here?
Elena: Don't give her that bottle!
Sarah: You are shouting. You are going to scare the baby.
Elena: Please, you have to put the bottle down.
Sarah: I am feeding my daughter. Step out of the nursery right now.
Elena: I can't let you do that.
Elena sprinted across the thick carpet in her navy maid uniform.
Sarah: Have you lost your mind? Get away from us!
Elena: Let it go!
Elena swung her hand wildly, smacking the heavy glass bottle out of Sarah's grip.
The bottle hit the hardwood floor with a loud clatter. White milk splashed everywhere, soaking the rug and Sarah's gold slippers.
Sarah: Oh my god!
Elena: I am so sorry, ma'am. I had to.
Sarah: You knocked her food out of my hands!
Elena: It wasn't safe.
Sarah: How dare you spill her milk?!
Sarah jumped up from the rocking chair, her face burning with sudden, blinding fury.
Elena: Ma'am, please listen to me.
Sarah: You are completely out of line!
Sarah swung her arm and slapped Elena hard across the face. The sharp sound echoed against the nursery walls.
Elena: Ah!
Sarah: You are fired! Get out of my house this instant!
Elena: Go ahead and fire me. But I saved her life.
Sarah: You are a lunatic. I am calling the police.
Elena: Call them. But wait — you need to see this first.
Elena held her red, stinging cheek. She stood her ground and quickly pulled her smartphone from her apron pocket.
