A New Beginning

The Cold Revenge At The Mountain Estate banner

The heavy doors of the main boardroom opened smoothly as I stepped inside. Twelve senior executives stood up from their leather chairs, bowing their heads in respect as I took my seat at the head of the long marble table.

Board Member 1: Welcome, Ms. Vance. We are honored to have you leading us today.

Elena: Thank you, gentlemen. Let's get straight to business.

Board Member 2: Before we begin the quarterly review, we wanted to formally apologize for not seeing through Victor's deception earlier.

Elena: Victor was a master at hiding his tracks. But that era of lies and secrecy is over now.

Board Member 1: What is your first priority for the company, Elena?

Elena: Transparency. We are restoring every pension fund Victor cut, and we are doubling our investment in ethical research.

The board members nodded in unanimous agreement, a wave of relief washing over the room. The atmosphere was no longer tense or fearful; for the first time in years, there was hope.

After two hours of productive discussions, the meeting concluded, and the executives shook my hand one by one before leaving the room.

I walked out onto the private balcony connected to the boardroom, feeling the warm afternoon breeze against my face. It was nothing like the freezing, terrifying wind of the mountain estate three months ago.

My phone rang softly in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw an unknown local number on the screen.

Elena: Hello?

Victor: Elena... please don't hang up.

I paused, recognizing his weak, trembling voice coming from the prison payphone.

Elena: You have one minute, Victor. Why are you calling me?

Victor: The prison guards... they won't let Mother visit me. She blamed me for everything during her appeal hearing today.

Elena: She always cared about herself more than she cared about you, Victor. You were just a tool for her greed.

Victor: I lost everything, Elena. My money, my status, my freedom... my whole life is ruined.

Elena: You didn't lose it, Victor. You threw it away the moment you decided to hurt innocent people for power.

Victor: Do you... do you think you could ever forgive me?

I looked out at the bright blue sky above the city skyline, a calm, peaceful smile spreading across my face as I made my final choice.

Elena: Forgiveness is for people who feel real remorse, Victor. You're just sorry you got caught.

I ended the call without waiting for his response and immediately blocked the number from my phone. I took a deep breath of the fresh city air, feeling lighter and freer than I ever had in my life.

The past was finally where it belonged—behind me. And as I turned back toward the bright, open doors of my father's company, I knew the future belonged entirely to me.

Elena: Goodbye, Victor.
