At nine o'clock the next morning, the sun shone brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance Global headquarters on Wall Street. The massive glass conference room was filled with terrified board members, all whispering nervously to one another as they waited for the emergency meeting to begin.
Board Member 1: Has anyone heard from Julian's legal team this morning?
Board Member 2: His chief legal counsel resigned at six in the morning. The firm's stock price dropped by forty percent before the market even opened!
Board Member 1: We need to elect an interim CEO right now or the bank is going to foreclose on our corporate mortgage!
The double glass doors swung open smoothly. I walked in wearing a tailored white pantsuit, holding a thick leather folder in my hands. Marcus walked right behind me, carrying two large boxes of legal evidence.
Board Member 1: Who are you? This is a private executive board meeting!
Clara: Sit down, gentlemen. I am Clara Sterling, and as of eight o'clock this morning, I hold sixty percent of the voting shares in this company.
Board Member 2: That's impossible! Julian owned fifty-five percent of the stock through his offshore trust!
Clara: That offshore trust was created using stolen funds from my father's estate trust fund. The federal court signed a forfeiture order transferring those shares back to my family three hours ago.
I tossed the legal court order onto the center of the dark mahogany table. The board members scrambled forward, grabbing the papers and scanning the official state seals in total shock.
Board Member 1: My God... it's authentic. The state supreme court signed it.
Clara: Which means Julian Vance is no longer an officer of this company. His mother Eleanor has been removed from the board of directors. And every decision made in this room for the last three years is currently under federal review.
A senior director in a navy suit stood up slowly, wiping sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.
Director Davis: Miss Sterling... please understand that none of us knew Julian was falsifying the financial reports. We were misled just like you were!
Clara: You weren't misled, Director Davis. You were paid three hundred thousand dollars a year in bonus checks to look the other way while Julian drained my father's pension fund.
Director Davis: That... that was a standard consulting fee!
Clara: You have ten minutes to clear your desk and leave this building. If you are still on the property at nine-fifteen, security will arrest you for corporate criminal trespassing.
The room went completely silent. Director Davis looked around at the other board members, searching for support, but every single man looked away, staring down at the table in quiet fear.
Director Davis: You can't run this company alone, Clara! You're just a girl with a vengeful grudge!
Clara: I'm not running it alone, Mr. Davis. I'm running it with the original engineering team Julian fired when he took over. The same team that built our primary patents.
Marcus stepped forward, placing a stack of termination notices on the table.
Marcus: Security is waiting in the hallway to escort any board member who wishes to resign immediately. The rest of you will face the forensic auditors coming in at noon.
Within three minutes, half the men in the room stood up, signed their resignation papers without saying a single word, and hurried out the glass doors like frightened mice.
