A New Sunrise

Miraculous Rescue: Heroic Man Saves Woman From Falling Off Snowy Balcony banner

Three days later, the sun rose brightly over the town courthouse, turning the fresh blanket of snow into a sea of sparkling white light.

Clara stood on the wide stone steps wearing a warm grey wool coat, her face clear and calm as news cameras flashed around her.

Reporter: Miss Evans! Is it true that the State Attorney General has seized all of Richard's assets?

Clara: Yes. The court has restored full ownership of the estate and the family business to me today.

Reporter 2: What will happen to the estate up on the mountain?

Clara: It will be turned into a charitable foundation in my mother's honor, supporting families in need across the state.

Elena walked down the courthouse steps, holding a stack of legal settlement folders in her arms with a huge smile on her face.

Elena: The judge just signed the final order, Clara! Richard's lawyers didn't even contest the forgery charges!

Clara: He knew he was facing twenty years for attempted murder, Elena. He had no leverage left.

Marcus walked up from the parking lot, wearing a sharp dark suit instead of his usual leather jacket, holding two hot coffee cups.

Marcus: Black coffee for the new head of the estate.

Clara: Thank you, Marcus. For everything. For saving my life on that balcony.

Marcus: You saved yourself, Clara. You were the one who held on when the snow gave way.

Elena: I'm going to take these files over to the bank, you two take your time.

Elena gave them a quick wave and walked down the steps toward her car, leaving Clara and Marcus standing together in the crisp morning air.

Clara: What will you do now, Marcus? Your father's name has finally been cleared.

Marcus: I was thinking about staying in town for a while. The foundation is going to need a good security director.

Clara: Is that so? Do you know anyone qualified for the job?

Marcus: I know a guy with a leather jacket who is pretty good at grabbing people before they fall.

Clara laughed softly, her hand reaching out to touch Marcus's arm gently as the cold wind blew past them.

Clara: The job is yours, Marcus. On one condition.

Marcus: Name it.

Clara: You never let go of my hand again.

Marcus reached down, wrapping his warm fingers tightly around hers, pulling her close against his side as they looked out over the quiet town below.

Marcus: Never again, Clara. Never again.
