The crystal chandelier hung over the long mahogany dining table, casting a warm glow across the room. Outside, bright daylight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, highlighting the pristine white walls of the luxury estate. It was supposed to be an intimate family lunch to celebrate a major real estate deal. Instead, the tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Brandon: I'VE HAD ENOUGH!
Brandon stood up so fast his chair screeched against the hardwood floor. He grabbed his plate, sloshing warm gravy over the fine china, and held it high above his head.
Claire: Brandon, please, sit down!
Brandon: No, Claire! I am done listening to her!
Before anyone could react, Brandon brought the heavy ceramic plate down hard right over Chloe's head. Food, thick brown gravy, and smashed vegetables exploded everywhere, coating her vibrant red hair and dripping down her silk dress.
Chloe: Oh!
Chloe winced, her eyes screwed shut as the warm gravy ran down her forehead. The dining room fell completely silent, except for the heavy breathing of the onlookers standing nearby.
Aunt Martha: Oh my goodness!
Uncle Richard: Brandon, what on earth?!
Chloe slowly opened her eyes. The shock on her face melted away in a fraction of a second, replaced by a cold, burning rage. She didn't cry. She didn't scream. She simply stood up, towering over the table.
Chloe: You think you can humiliate me in front of everyone?
Brandon: You deserved it, you ungrateful—
With a quick upward motion, Chloe brought her right hand around and slapped Brandon straight across the face with a loud, ringing crack.
Brandon: Ugh!
Chloe: GO TO HELL!
Chloe glared at him for one agonizing second, turned on her heel, and stormed away toward the glass doors, her heavy footsteps echoing down the hallway as the remaining guests stood frozen in utter shock, realizing this fight was far from over.
