Taking Back The Crown

Disgraced Heiress Returns To The Gala And Exposes The Fake CEO banner

Arthur Vance walked up the stairs of the stage, adjusting his glasses as he approached Evelyn. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a gold keycard and a leather binder.

Arthur Vance: Evelyn... I owe you a massive apology. If I had investigated deeper three years ago, you wouldn't have suffered like this.

Evelyn: Apologies don't fix the past, Mr. Vance. Action fixes the future.

Arthur Vance: You're just like your father. Cold, sharp, and always three steps ahead.

Evelyn: Is the emergency board meeting scheduled?

Arthur Vance: Yes. Tomorrow at eight in the morning in the penthouse boardroom. All nine directors have confirmed their attendance.

Evelyn: Good. Tell them to bring their resignation letters if they supported Victoria's financial restructuring.

Arthur Vance: Half of them will resign before dawn just to avoid the federal audit.

Evelyn took the gold keycard from Vance's hand. It was the master key to the Sterling Tower penthouse—the room where she had grown up, and the room she had been locked out of for three long years.

She walked down the stage steps and walked toward the center of the hall. The guests parted like the Red Sea, bowing their heads slightly as she passed by.

Guest 1: Good evening, Miss Sterling.

Guest 2: Welcome back, Chairman.

Guest 3: We always knew you were the true heir!

Evelyn didn't smile. She didn't wave. She knew these people were the same ones who had turned their backs on her when she was dragged away three years ago. Their respect was not real; it was born out of fear and power.

She stopped at the table where Julian had been sitting minutes earlier. His half-empty glass of champagne still sat beside a plate of untouched caviar.

Evelyn picked up the glass, turned it upside down, and watched the expensive gold liquid pour onto the white tablecloth, drowning the fake luxury of the night.

She wiped the small cut on her cheek one last time with a clean linen napkin, then threw the napkin onto the floor.

Evelyn: Clean this mess up.

The head waiter nodded instantly, bowing his head.

Head Waiter: Right away, Miss Sterling.

Evelyn turned around and walked toward the grand exit doors. Her heels clicked against the marble floor with steady, powerful rhythm. Outside, the night air was cold, but inside her chest, the fire had finally turned into complete peace.
