The engagement party was everything Ethan and Emily had dreamed of. Their families filled the elegant backyard of a beautiful home, music played softly through the speakers, and a large decorated cake waited to become the center of the celebration.
Everyone smiled as guests gathered around the table.
The cake looked perfect.
Nearby, eight-year-old Ava carefully carried the cake toward the display table. She wanted to help and felt proud that the family trusted her with such an important job.
As she walked closer, she suddenly remembered something that made her heart race.
Just a few minutes earlier, she had seen Emily standing alone beside the cake.
At first, Ava thought Emily was simply adjusting the decorations.
But then she noticed Emily quietly opening a small container and dropping insects into the frosting before quickly looking around to make sure nobody had seen her.
Confused, Ava had secretly recorded what she saw with her phone.
She didn't understand why anyone would ruin such an important cake.
As Ethan reached for the cake, Ava made a split-second decision.
She stumbled on purpose and let the cake fall.
The beautiful dessert crashed onto the ground.

Ethan looked at the ruined cake in disbelief.
"Ava," he said, "why did you do that?"

Emily folded her arms.
"She just ruined the whole celebration."
Ava shook her head.
"There were insects in the cake."
The crowd fell silent.
Emily laughed nervously.
"That's ridiculous."
Ethan frowned.
"Ava, that's a serious thing to say."
"I know," Ava replied softly.
"But it's true."
Emily quickly stepped forward.
"She's only trying to cover up what she did."
For a moment, it seemed as though nobody believed the little girl.
Then Ava wiped away her tears and reached into her pocket.
"I have proof."
She unlocked her phone.
Curious guests gathered around.
Ava pressed play.
The recording clearly showed Emily standing beside the cake while secretly dropping insects into the frosting. She looked around carefully before walking away as though nothing had happened.
Nobody spoke.
The only sound was the video playing.
Ethan stared at the screen.
His expression changed from confusion to disbelief.
He watched the recording a second time.
Then he slowly lowered the phone.
"Emily," he asked quietly, "why?"
Emily couldn't answer.
The guests exchanged stunned looks.
One woman whispered, "The little girl was telling the truth all along."
Another guest sighed.
"We almost blamed the wrong person."
Ethan turned to Ava.
"I'm sorry I didn't listen to you."
Ava smiled weakly.
"I just didn't want anyone to eat the cake."
The guests thanked Ava for speaking up, even when it was difficult.
